Leanne Clevenger, M.D. is a fellowship-trained, board-certified ophthalmologist and Lexington native specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of retinal conditions. Dr. Clevenger earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Wake Forest University. She then earned her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where she also completed a preliminary internship in internal medicine.
Dr. Clevenger completed her residency and fellowship training at the Cleveland Clinic’s Cole Eye Institute, where she served as Chief Resident and gained extensive experience in vitreoretinal surgery. While there, she contributed to clinical trials and research focused on geographic atrophy, retinal artery occlusions, and ocular trauma.
Her clinical focuses include a variety of retinal conditions including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal detachment, epiretinal membrane, macular hole, and dislocated or retained lens fragments. She is skilled in performing a wide range of procedures, including scleral buckle, vitrectomy, intraocular injections, pneumatic retinopexy and more. Dr. Clevenger has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and presented at national conferences, contributing to greater advancements in retinal care.
In addition to her clinical expertise, Dr. Clevenger also serves as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at UK HealthCare, where she mentors future ophthalmologists and retina specialists. Outside of her professional life, Dr. Clevenger enjoys long-distance running, painting, and horseback riding.
