Primary Eye Care is providing for
"most" of the vision and eye problems
that "most" people have "most"
of the time. It is the foundation for maintaining
good vision and healthy eyes through one's lifetime.
This care protects us in regards to acute eye
problems such as "pink eye" or eye injuries;
long term eye conditions such as "lazy eye"
or cataracts; and refractive errors such as near-sightedness,
far-sightedness or astigmatism.
Contact lenses are used to correct
the same conditions that eyeglasses correct such
as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness),
astigmatism (distorted vision) and presbyopia
(need for bifocals.).
We all recognize acute eye problems
such as eye infections and the need for immediate
care. In addition to those very apparent needs,
periodic eye health examinations permit the early
detection of long-term eye problems associated
with heredity and/or aging that might otherwise
lead to severe permanent visual loss. These long-term
eye conditions include: "lazy eye,"
glaucoma, cataracts, floaters, macular degeneration,
diabetic eye problems and others.
Refractions are the testing process
which enables your doctor to determine if there
are focusing or alignment deficiencies which may
affect your vision, your depth perception or eye
comfort. Your primary eye care doctor will assist
you in determining the appropriate treatment or
correction that best suits you whether that be
with glasses, contact lenses, training or refractive
surgery.
Primary eye care is truly fundamental
in maintaining good vision and healthy eyes for
you and your family.
